Diathermy Skin Tag, Spot and Milia Removal

Diathermy is a safe and effective cosmetic procedure performed to treat skin problems such as skin tags, spider veins, dilated and broken capillaries, red spots, milia, sebaceous hyperplasia, seborrheic keratosis and other benign skin lesions. Diathermy gives blemish free, smooth skin, instantaneously. It is a bloodless procedure and does not require any stitches. It is used primarily for cosmetic treatment of the face, neck, shoulder, chest and back. These are the areas of the body which get exposed to the harmful effects of the sun and the environment and more often develop skin problems.

About the diathermy procedure

Diathermy involves the use of a high energy current via a needle. This combined with the water content in the treatment area will produce heat which destroys the lesion. The area to be treated is made numb by applying local anaesthetic or in some cases ice packs or via our cryo unit and then a fine, gold or silver, hair-thin needle is introduced in the lesion to pass the current. The heat produced destroys the tissue of the lesion and the lesion disappears instantaneously. After the procedure mild swelling and redness may result. This will resolve in few hours. The superficial sore is left and allowed to heal with a topical medical grade silicone gel applied (wound healing dressing).

When should I avoid diathermy?

Diathermy treatment gives consistent good results for superficial skin problems but may not be performed if you are pregnant or suffering from heart disease, have a pace maker, high blood pressure, AIDS, hepatitis, epilepsy, blood disorders, are on blood thinners or have a super sensitive skin.

What precautions should I take following diathermy procedure?

After the diathermy procedure we recommend applying medical grade silicone gel to assist with healing. Protect the treated area from direct sun exposure and apply a recommended sunscreen. Makeup is not recommended on the treated area until the lesion has healed. Do not pick any small scabs that may form. Press – do not scratch the lesion should it get itchy as it heals. Smoking delays the healing process of the body and the toxic chemicals from the smoke against the skin slow down healing and may increase infection and or irritation chances.

Additional notes

● Capillary removal procedures will require a follow up treatment two weeks after the first treatment.

● Once skin tags or sebaceous hyperplasia are removed they generally to not return in the same location.

● A thirty minute treatment may remove multiple skin tags, however this depends on the size of the tag.
